Research Grants


Applications are made directly to the ADRF.

If you are a researcher interested in undertaking a dental or oral health research project, you are invited to apply for grants in the following areas: 

Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) Research Grant
The Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) Research Award until 2015 provided an additional $7,500 to the primary applicant for the highest-ranked research grant application. From 2016, the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) Research Grant will provide up to $25,000 for a single grant. As part of the conditions, the Researchers of the Award must agree to work with the ADIA to raise Awareness of the Grant, the ADRF and the research it is funding. 

Minimum intervention dentistry
The GC Australasia Dental Pty Ltd, Minimum Intervention Dentistry Award provides $5,000 for the promotion of research in this field. 

Community oral health
The International College of Dentists - Australasian Section - ICD Award provides $5,000 annually for single projects.

Oral medicine
The Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia Research Award disperses $2,000 annually to supplement the highest-ranked application in this field.

Australian Dental Association WA Branch Research Awards
The ADA WA Branch support three grants, as follows for up to $5,000 each to the University of Western Australia: 

  • ADAWA DMD Student Grant 
  • ADAWA DClin Dent Student Grant
  • ADAWA Clinical Dentistry Student Grant

Piksters Periodontal Award
Dr Craig Erskine-Smith provides generous annual support of $10,000 towards clinical research in periodontics or restorative dentistry. The highest ranked application in this field secure the Piksters Periodontal Award. 

Applications open mid-January and must be received no later than 31 March each year via the 
ADRF grants upload page; late applications cannot be considered. Applicants must fill out and upload the Grant Application Form.
